Nalbandian Slowly Backs On Track

Call it a comeback if you want and David Nalbandian made the best of his wildcard entry into the Legg Mason Tennis Classic yesterday by defeating Marcos Baghdatis to win his first title in a long while. The Argentine has been back from surgery this year and the tournament was only his second since April.

Nalbandian went through a field of talented players and he finished the job to become the first player in the top 100 to win an ATP event in 2010.

“I didn’t expect to win my first tournament,” Nalbandian said. “In the beginning, if I had to bet, I (wouldn’t have) bet on myself, of course.”

The Argentine upset No. 4 Marin Cilic, No. 7 Stanislas Wawrinka, No. 13 Gilles Simon, and No. 8 Baghdatis, to win the title.
