Australia has finally seen one of its ladies go up to the Top 10 of the world ranking. Samantha Stosur's run to the semifinal of last week's event in Madrid moved her up to Number 7 in the world ranking.
The last time someone made it that high was in 1985 when Wendy Turnbull reached Number 3 in the world. The previous highest ranking Aussie gal was Alicia Molik, who climbed all the way to Number 8.
With Stosur's form so great on clay so far, she should be a force at the French Open next week.
