There is always a first for everything!
For Taylor Dent, it took 12 years but earlier today, he advanced to the second round of the French Open by defeating Nicolas Lapentti in straights. Dent has never gone past the first round at the slam.
He joined John Isner into the second round.
“Better late than never, right?” Dent said. “There’s nothing more that Americans love than to come over here and win matches. We always have that label, like, `Oh, you’re American. First round, see you later.’ So I think we get a lot of pride from winning matches here.”
Dent won 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
