This is something of a pleasant surprise for Ana Ivanovic this week at the Italian Open. Whatever she did during her long time off seems to be working this week.
Ivanovic took out Victoria Azarenka in the second round and now has taken out Elena Dementieva in the third round. These are two back-to-back top 10 wins for the former world no. 1 and French Open champ.
What I am most impress about is the Serb had three aces and two double faults in her match. Her serve seems to be working right now and it definitely helping her through these matches.
She has a lot of talent, I hope this is really going to stay. Her countrywoman Jelena Jankovic has somewhat upped her level so far including that Indian Wells victory.
If Ivanovic can get back up there with the rest, it will be a interesting mix. Now we just have to wait for Maria Sharapova.
Maybe the last half of the year for the WTA Tour will be a battleground.
