Even though defending champ and feisty Yanina Wickmayer lost her cool with the linesmen and Chair Umpire, the Belgian recovered nicely and defeated Peng Shuai to advance to the final in Auckland. She won in three tough sets.
Wickmayer will take on Greta Arn, who defeated Julia Goerges in straight sets. Arn continues her dream week here after stunning Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinals the other day.
You can even call Arn a Super Lucky loser because the 31-year-old got into the main draw after three players ahead of her withdrew. The Hungarian is here without her coach because of the short notice.
“I’m living a dream—I’m definitely playing some of the best tennis of my life,” Arn said.
